Title: Wetland Twilight Safari
Age group: 11-12
Meet: P. 19; tour length: 3 hours, 7-10pm
Dates: 8/2, 8/9, 8/16
Equipment: nets, trays, soil probe, microscopes, ice cube trays,
 invertebrate charts, lab room.

* Hike to Marmo. Examine flowers/fruit along the way.
* Take soil sample and examine hydric soil. Smell: slow decomposition.
  Bring sample back to lab.
* Collect invertebrates at 2 places: along lake for still water
  and Willoway for moving water critters. Bring back to lab.
* Take cattail samples, including stems and spikes.
  Look for sac spider egg case in leaf; cattail moth caterpillars in spike.
  Species identification: T. latifolia, T. angustifolia.
* Start walk back at twilight, look for nocturnal animals.
  Solitary walk as nocturnal animals.
* Lab: microscope: invertebrates, soil sample, cattail flower/seed heads
       trays: squeeze cattail stems in pans, air bubbles are from
       spongy aerenchyma, an adaptation to oxygen-poor hydric soil.
* Wrapup: food cycle: producer/consumer/decomposer. water cycle.
